"The ringing of the phone interrupted a quiet afternoon doze.  Pastor 'Efraim' was calling to thank me for my presentation on the history of Islam and Christianity at the conference.

Before I could express my appreciation for the call though, my friend went on to say ,'At the end of your seminar you challenged us to love Muslims and to pray that the Lord would bless them through our lives.  I'm afraid this is something I cannot do because I don't love Muslims and I don't want Muslims in heaven.'

I didn't know what to say, but the pastor broke the silence, 'Please don't judge me, Jon.  You don't know my history.  You don't know what Muslims have done to me and my family.'  For the next fifteen minutes he shared stories of land stolen, promises broken, and family members murdered -- a history of the encounter between Islam and Christianity through the eyes and heart of one man.  History came alive that afternoon as I hung up the phone and wept."
